Fresh Breath Treatment

What are the causes of bad breath?

Sometimes bad breath is easy to cure through diet or lifestyle changes – it could be down to something as simple as consuming the wrong foods. However, on some occasions bad breath is as a result of a medical problem which can be a little more complex to tackle. Here at Fresh, we can help identify the cause of your bad breath so that you can lead a healthy and confident life.

Dry mouth can be a medical condition otherwise known (xerostomia). It means that your mouth produces less saliva which then causes bacteria to build up in your mouth, leading to bad breath. There are several changes you can make to your lifestyle that will help your mouth produce more saliva.

  • Bad breath can be caused by certain medicines, which also stop the production of saliva and therefore food particles cannot be washed away.
  • Medical conditions can cause bad breath – liver and kidney problems. If you have a healthy mouth but are suffering from bad breath, you may be referred to a specialist or your GP so that the cause can be detected.
  • Smoking causes its own type of bad breath – stopping smoking will help to prevent bad breath as well as keep your gums health, as tobacco irritates the gums and also stains your teeth. You are more likely to suffer from gum disease and periodontitis if you are a smoker.
  • Throat infections can cause bad breath.
  • Build- up of bacteria on your tongue.
  • Poorly fitted crowns, bridges and dentures.

How can Fresh Dental help?

We can arrange a consultation for you here at Fresh Dental so that we can diagnose the cause of your bad breath. It may just be a question of cutting out certain foods or changing certain habits. If you have a poor oral hygiene routine or dental routine, you may need to make certain changes here, as failing to brush your teeth for 2 minutes twice a day will cause a build up of bacteria in the form of plaque and tartar.

We can treat gum disease by cleaning and root debriding – a non-surgical procedure where we clean the root surfaces of your teeth. We will also offer advice on general oral hygiene practice and create a specific tailored treatment plan for each patient. Regular visits to the dental hygienist will help you to avoid bad breath and unhealthy teeth.

The advantages of Invisalign over other orthodontic treatments

Invisalign treatment has revolutionised the world of orthodontics, placing responsibility and freedom into the hands of the patient. Unlike fixed orthodontic methods, Invisalign is a removable treatment that offers the patient flexibility where diet is concerned and generally takes less time than traditional fixed brace methods.

Why seek Invisalign orthodontic treatment?

  • You’ll have healthier teeth and gums – When teeth are properly aligned, your gums have a better fit around your teeth which means they are set up to provide the strongest and healthiest defence against gum disease and more serious gum-related complications.
  • Improve your overall health – Your teeth are generally a good indication of your overall health. By maintaining good oral hygiene and dental health, you’re on a good path to a high level or overall health.

How are my aligners created?

You will need an initial consultation with our orthodontist here at Fresh Dental so that you can discuss your treatment. We value the personal touch and wish for your treatment to suit your lifestyle as much as possible. Once this has been discussed, you will need to return for a second appointment so that impressions of your teeth can be taken and your aligners made up. These impressions will be taken digitally and your aligners will be created from this information.

You will be given advice and instructions on how to maintain your treatment effectively at home including how to clean your aligners, how long to wear them for each day (22 hours) and how often to visit your orthodontist for a check-up.

The benefits of Invisalign:

  • You can continue enjoying the foods you like as Invisalign is a removable type of orthodontic appliance.
  • Orthodontic treatment can help improve the way you chew and break down food, thus improving your digestion.
  • Traditional fixed metal orthodontic appliances can make it challenging to clean your teeth and remove the bacteria and food particles from in between your teeth. As Invisalign aligners are removable, you can continue cleaning your teeth and flossing as normal.

Removable braces in Maidstone

Here at Fresh, we offer two different types of removable Invisalign braces.

What are Invisalign braces?

Invisalign is a set of clear aligners used to straighten misaligned teeth. They are made from transparent material which makes them a discreet choice of treatment. Invisalign is lightweight and comfortable, allowing you to get on with you daily routine hassle-free.

We also offer i7 which is a new orthodontics system from Invisalign, specifically designed to achieve minor tooth movements. This system can also help treat problems with spacing, crowding and orthodontic relapse. The treatment can sometimes take longer than traditional fixed metal braces to correct misaligned teeth, with results beginning to show between 12-18 months.

Invisalign Express amalgamates the best features of Invisalign i7 and Invisalign to create a treatment suitable for less severe orthodontic problems like spacing and crowding. Invisalign Express aims to correct problems in as little as six months.

Benefits of Invisalign aligners

  • Discreet – others will not notice you are undergoing orthodontic treatment.
  • Treatment time is similar to that of traditional fixed braces.
  • You can continue enjoying the foods you love as you can remove your braces to eat them – they will not interfere with your treatment as long as you take them out.
  • Non-invasive.
  • You are in control of your treatment – you replace the aligners – they must be worn for 22 hours a day.

What is the procedure involved with removable Invisalign braces?

You will need to attend an initial consultation so that we can talk through your treatment with you and create a bespoke treatment plan for you. On your second appointment, we will take X-rays, pictures and impressions of your teeth so that your treatment can be precisely mapped out – the length of your treatment can also be ascertained once this information is known.

Once your braces have been made up, you can go home and begin the treatment, changing your aligners every 2 weeks and wearing them for 22 hours per day. Once the course of treatment is complete, you will need to wear a retainer to ensure that your teeth do not shift back into their original position. This is an essential part of treatment as all of your hard work could become redundant without a retainer!

Invisalign has be come an extremely popular option with celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Niall Horan and Kathy Bates.
