How can Cfast braces benefit me

What is Cfast?

Cfast is a game-changing way to realign your teeth, taking only six months. The treatment bears strong cosmetic advantages such as their tooth-coloured nickel titanium wires and clear-finish brackets.

How do Cfast straighten my teeth?

The treatment uses low force in order to move teeth more comfortably. The treatment places an emphasis on the cosmetic appearance of your teeth rather than on the position of your bite. You will need to visit us every 4-5 weeks for check-ups and adjustments to the brace.

Orthodontic treatment and adults

It was not so long ago that adults were resistant to the idea of undergoing orthodontic treatment as it meant a fairly significant change in appearance. Since 2011, 20% of people undergoing treatment is now an adult, due to more cosmetically discreet treatments such as Cfast.

Foods to avoid whilst wearing braces

As this is a fixed treatment, it is paramount to avoid foods that might jeopardise your treatment. Such foods include:

  • Caramel/toffee/sticky confectionary.
  • Crisps.
  • Popcorn.
  • Certain dense breads (bagels).

Benefits of Cfast

  • Renew your self-confidence
  • Improve the appearance of your smile.
  • Have a healthier smile – having gaps in your smile can promote the growth of unhealthy bacteria (plaque and tartar) which if left untreated, can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.
  • Chew and smile with confidence and ease.
  • Misaligned teeth can cause speech impediments – Six Month Smiles can help to improve your speech.

How can I look after my braces?

As Cfast is a fixed treatment, you need to avoid eating the foods listed above. You should also thoroughly brush your teeth for 2 at least 2 minutes twice a day and floss as often as you can to remove any food particles and to cover all of your tooth surfaces (failing to floss means you are neglecting to clean 30% of your tooth surfaces!).  This will also prevent plaque and tartar from building up in the gaps of your teeth.

You should clean your teeth after eating and use a small toothbrush to cover the more difficult areas of your mouth. This will allow you to clean each bracket carefully – this sounds time-consuming but it will ensure you do not develop gum disease and render the treatment successful.

Start a-Fresh in 2017 with facial aesthetics treatment

Start 2017 with a fresh new look and and newly restored dose of confidence with dermal fillers. This treatment is a great gift to a loved one or can be a treat to yourself going into the New Year or for Christmas.

At the centre of dermal fillers is a substance that occurs naturally the body – hyaluronic acid. This substance gives the skin volume and is responsible for a youthful-looking appearance. This supply of hyaluronic acid begins to deplete as you get into your early twenties and this will gradually cause your skin to lose its elasticity and volume. There are other factors that contribute to your skin ageing which include smoking, drinking alcohol, frequent sun exposure, sun beds, disease and changes in weight.

Dermal fillers can work by targeting specific areas of the face, smoothening out wrinkles and age lines. They can also help to give volume and definition to your lips. The areas that can be targeted include

  • Crows feet
  • Nose lines
  • Lines around the mouth
  • Lips

Why have dermal fillers

  • Restore confidence in yourself.
  • Restore your desire to smile again.
  • Have healthier-looking skin.
  • Benefit from a safe treatment.
  • Benefit from a treatment that has successfully helped millions around the world.

Dermal fillers treatment & orthodontics or cosmetic dentistry

Enhance your facial aesthetics treatment by combining with cosmetic dentistry such as teeth whitening or veneers. A combination of younger looking skin and teeth gives for a fresh, healthy and youthful appearance.

If you have a missing tooth, this can affect the way your skin appears, as the gap left in your mouth can cause your skin and features to droop. In some instances, dermal fillers or Botox treatment can be used to give additional volume to the skin that has sagged overtime as a result of your missing tooth (though replacing the tooth will also help restore this).

Here at Fresh, dentist Marcus Spry has expensive experience and training in facial aesthetics treatment and understands how to maximise the benefits of dermal fillers and Botox. His knowledge has helped many patients, creating subtle and authentic-looking improvements.

How to do Christmas with braces

It’s the most wonderful time of the year….! But if you’re undergoing treatment for braces, this can seem a bit of a daunting time as you might think you can’t enjoy some of your favourite Christmas foods…. But don’t fret as we’ve compiled a list of Christmas Christmas tips as well as general tips on how to stay healthy during your orthodontic treatment period.

Cheese – You’ll be pleased to hear that cheese is in the ‘yes’ column when it comes to foods you can enjoy with braces. Dairy is also generally good for your teeth as it is full of calcium which strengthens tooth enamel (the protective coating over your teeth). Bring on the Christmas cheeseboards!

Turkey – Turkey is low in fat and full of nutrients that render your teeth and bones strong and stimulates the production of saliva which can protect against cavities.

Pumpkin – More of a Thanksgiving food but pumpkin is a great festive choice of sweet, full of vitamin A which helps keep your gums and teeth healthy.

Invest in a timer

During your orthodontic treatment, it’s essential that you give your teeth the utmost care. This means brushing thoroughly for 2 minutes a day twice a day (at least)! Having a timer can make it easier to keep track of how long you’ve brushed and ensure that your brushing routine is regimental.

Adjust your brushing routine

As mentioned above, it’s important to have a rigid brushing routine. However, you should also be aiming to brush after each time you eat. This is because food particles become very easily lodged in between the brackets of your brace and in between your teeth and if these are left in your mouth long enough they will cause decay. Did you know bacteria begins to form a mere 3 hours after you eat? As you are more susceptible during orthodontic treatment, you should be sure to remove any debris as quickly as possible so that any further complications such as periodontitis to evolve.

Use a small toothbrush

A smaller toothbrush with smaller and softer bristles will access food particles more easily and allow you to cover more of your tooth surfaces.

Use waterfloss

It’s notoriously difficult to floss during orthodontic treatment. However, you can work around this by using waterfloss which is clinically proven to be more effective than regular floss for people with braces as it is much easier to manoeuvre between the gaps in your teeth.

Ideas for a dental-friendly stocking for Christmas

Are you trying to keep your kids and loved ones healthy over the Christmas period? There are some great tooth-healthy stocking fillers that you can offer them that they’ll love!

Here are a few ideas ….

Gingerbread

Although gingerbread contains a lot of sugar and still come under the ‘biscuits’ category, it is one of the healthiest Christmas sweets over other confectionary such as caramel, chocolate and candy canes. It’s also fairly soft and not too difficult to chew for younger children.

Cheese selection

Cheese is one of the most tooth-friendly foods around, so it makes a great Christmas treat! Cheese is packed with calcium which strengthens tooth enamel (the protective coating on your teeth) Remember that cheese is fairly high in fat so enjoy in moderation.

Unsalted nut ad fruits selection

Nuts may be high in calories but they’re full of good fats and also full of nutrients that are good for bone and tooth development. Although some of the fruits in the selections may be citrus fruits, they are dried out which removed some of the corrosive acid, making them a healthy alternative to confectionary. Like cheese, cashews stimulate the production of saliva which helps to remove food particles and bacteria that cause gum disease and tooth decay and walnuts are packed with a multitude of vitamins including zinc, potassium, fibre, vitamins e and b6 and magnesium.

Character-branded toothbrush

Sometimes it can be a drag to get our kids to brush their teeth! Character-branded toothbrushes can be a great incentive to make them enjoy brushing again. There are plenty available from Disney and Nickelodeon.

Electric toothbrush

Electric toothbrushes have become a popular Christmas gift and bring proven results. Their advantages over manual toothbrushes include their dentist-inspired brush heads which are proven to remove plaque more effectively.

2 minute timer

A small novelty timer can be a good gift for an individual who struggles to brush for the correct time. Oral-B have also released a brush that uses Bluetooth to offer real-time brushing suggestions. Just connect with your phone!

Botox at Fresh Dental Care

What is Botox ?

Botox, otherwise known as Botulinum Toxin Type A, is a purified natural protein, chemically derived from bacteria that your dentist will inject into a specific muscle to cause temporary relaxation or paralysis. Botox is an increasingly popular treatment and it’s no surprise why, when it can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles by 80%.

Reasons to have Botox injections

Safe – Botox, as well as dermal fillers, is a safe procedure when carried out by a qualified professional. Our dentists here at Fresh have a high level of training and experience in this area and have successfully performed the treatment for a number of patients.

How does Botox work to reduce the appearance of wrinkles?

Botox works by obstructing the signals from the nerves to the muscles. Once this has it has been administered, the muscle can no longer contract, causing wrinkles to soften and relax. Botox is commonly used on forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet (lines around the eyes).

What does having Botox injections involve?

You will be invited to attend a consultation so that you can discuss your treatment with Dr Marcus Spry. A numbing cream will be applied to the areas in question and the area will be cleaned. Following this the Botox injections will be administered. This takes around 15 minutes.

When will I see the effects of Botox?

You will notice a change in volume almost immediately. The area may be slightly red or swollen after treatment. You will continue to see changes to your facial definition and skin for several days after treatment. The effects last for several months.

Before we can administer the injections, we will need to discuss your medical history at your consultation. We will need to know about any medication that you are taking as well as if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This is because the effects of Botox injections on babies is not known.
