- Reduce anxiety before undergoing a dental procedure.
- You’ll remember little about the procedure.
- Avoids the need for general anaesthetic.
Do you have a long-standing negative association with the dentist? Rest assured, you are not alone, as half of people in the UK have admitted to having some form of dental phobia, with 12% of these people suffering from extreme dental anxiety.
Dental care is making big steps in pain-free treatment and we strive to incorporate this technology at Fresh, to help make our patients feel more at ease about their treatment. Many patients will actually put off having treatment that could make a huge difference to their daily lives because of their dental anxiety and at Fresh, we’re committed to helping patients battle their fear so that they are able to come and receive the treatment they need.
‘Intravenous’ means the sedative medication is administered through a small needle or catheter into a vein. During intravenous sedation, you will be able to co-operate with the dentist, for example if they need you to open your mouth wider. The sedative used has an amnesic effect, so you will have little or no memory of the procedure. You will be in a state of reduced anxiety.
Before and after sedation
You will need to be accompanied by a friend or member of your family before any procedure that involves sedation as you will not be able to drive afterwards for your own safety. We recommend that you wear loose and comfortable clothing. Your dentist will ask you to eat a light meal a few hours before the procedure.
So let’s round-up the benefits of sedation:
At Fresh we believe in strong rapports with our patients in order to make them feel safe and in good hands. If you have any worries about treatment, our team are friendly, approachable and always ready to listen to your worries. Read more about the Fresh Dental ethos here.
