Veneers are ultra thin, custom made porcelain laminates that are fixed directly to the teeth with an extremely strong adhesive. Over the last 10 years they have become very popular in the UK. They are a durable option for changing the shape, position and colour of your teeth. I use Lumineers.
They can be used also to close gaps replace worn edges and resurface discoloured teeth that may not have whitened enough with gel whitening.
Unlike a crown or cap which covers the entire tooth, a veneer covers mainly the visible front part of the tooth and may wrap over the biting edge.
There are two types of veneer, preparation and non preparation. The preparation veneers need some of your natural tooth enamel removed painlessly first, then an impression is taken, temporary veneers made and attached. Two weeks later the temporaries are removed and the custom made veneers attached. The non preparation are very similar however no reduction in your tooth is needed.
The choice between the two techniques depends on how crooked your teeth are to start with and how you want them positioned at the end.
Cost on average £600 per veneer.
