Upgrade your dentures to dental implants….
Have you been wearing dentures for a while but want a more non-invasive solution? Dental implants are renowned for being the next best thing to a missing tooth and are widely considered to be superior to dentures. Here are a few reasons why….
In contrast to dentures, dental implants are a fixed solution that you never have to remove once they have been fitted via a surgical procedure. Your dentist will replace your tooth’s root with a dental implant and this will be left to fuse with your jawbone over a period of months, so they actually become a permanent part of your body. This removes the hassle of needing to remove them to clean them, which is the case with dentures.
Look and feel like natural teeth
As above, because they are a fixed solution they will feel like they are just another one of your natural teeth. Dental implants are made up of 3 parts:
Implant – the part that is inserted into the jawbone to become a part of you.
Abutment – the connecting part that links the implant and the restoration.
Restoration – the aesthetic part of a tooth – this can be a crown or a bridge.
We can create highly aesthetic, hand-crafted porcelain crowns that are made to be the same shade as your existing teeth – no one need know you’ve even had treatment!
Easier to maintain
Cleaning dentures involves having to remove them but you will have no such issue with dental implants. You can treat them like you would your natural teeth, cleaning them for 2 minutes twice a day and flossing once a day. It’s also important to make sure that you continue attending regular check-ups bi-annually/annually depending on what the situation is with your dental hygiene.
Avoid jawbone loss with dental implants
Dentures will not save you from jawbone resorption which is when your jawbone has no support from teeth because they are no longer present. Resorption can lead to a change in your facial aesthetic and cause your face to ‘collapse’. Many people lose their confidence as a result, as their face appears older than it actually is. Because dental implants allow the bone to grow around them, this is no a problem.
